Founded in 1986 Homeward Bound has Grown to include a comprehensive continuum of services that empower a homeless person to make the journey from living on the streets to self-sufficiency and dignity in permanent supportive housing.

PATHWAYS TO PERMANENT HOUSING

We have created a new paradigm called "Pathways to Permanent Housing" to help realize the Asheville-Buncombe County 10-Year Plan to eliminate homelessness. In partnership with local landlords and managment companies, we are moving the chronically homeless into service-enriched permanent housing. This is a model that promises to be far more cost-effective for the community and, more importantly, has the potential to permanently end chronic homelessness rather than merely manage it.

A HOPE DAY CENTER

The A Hope Day Center is the main entry point into support services for the homeless in Asheville. In collaboration with a score of community service providers, we help people access legal services or secure medical and mental health treatment; offer assistance in securing entitlement programs, provide basic necessities such as a shower, a place to store belongings, an address, regular foot check-ups and blood pressure monitoring and much more.

SAFE HAVEN

Safe Haven offers safe (physical and emotional) shelter to persons with chronic mental health or substance abuse issues who are turned away by mainstream shelters and are in danger on the streets.

ROOM IN THE INN

This is a moble crisis shelter for 12 women operated in partnership with 33 area churches providing accommadations on a rotating basis. The women receive food and lodging for 90 days (or more if needed) and our staff provides access to the services they need on their journey to permanent housing.

PATH PROGRAM

The PATH program provides outreach and intensive case management services to homeless individuals with severe and persistent mental illness who do not currently have a mental health provider. PATH case managers reach individuals throughout the Asheville area at parks, public institutions, homeless agencies or anywhere they can begin the process of building a relationship. These trusting relationships allow the PATH team to encourage individuals to seek and obtain mental health counseling and treatment; ultimately setting them on the path towards permanent housing.
