Welcome Home Project

The Welcome Home Project helps us get people into housing & keep them in housing by providing a basic setup of furniture & housewares to support them as they transition into stability.  There’s no better way to be part of the solution to homelessness than to welcome someone home!

Our goal is provide each person we move into housing with:

  • Furniture
  • a Move-In Box
  • a Welcome Kit

Here’s a list of the items we’re looking for.  You can help by donating new or used items on those lists, or take it a step further by putting together an entire Move-In Box or Welcome Kit.  You can also fully sponsor a move-in, by gathering ALL of the items for a complete household!  Sponsoring a move-in is a great service project for congregations or offices, and a tangible way to be part of the solution.

You can also volunteer with the Welcome Home Project, by becoming one of the following:

  • Donations Pickup Volunteers: Commit to a block of time each week to use our vehicle to collect donations from community members who’ve called to arrange a pickup.
  • Organizer Volunteers: Help us keep the donations we’ve got organized & ready to go into people’s new homes, and put together Move-In Boxes from the donations we’ve gathered.
  • Move-In Volunteer: Join a team of folks who load up furniture, a Move-In Box, and a Welcome Kit & deliver them to a client’s new apartment on move-in day.

To donate any of the above items, email donate@hbofa.org or call 258.1695 x258 to coordinate pickup or delivery details.

To join the Welcome Home Project as a volunteer, attend one of our monthly volunteer orientations, always held the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m.  Email volunteer@hbofa.org to register.

Thanks for partnering with us as we move people out of homelessness & welcome them home!
